Apprentice Mechanical Fitter – Special Purpose Machinery

JVD Engineering Ltd, a leading automation engineering firm specializing in the design and manufacture of special-purpose machinery, is looking for a motivated Apprentice Mechanical Fitter to join our dynamic team in Morley.

As an apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience working with experienced engineers, learning how to assemble, install, and maintain complex machinery.
The Role:
As an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter, you will work alongside skilled professionals to build, assemble, and install special-purpose machinery. You will gain valuable experience in the following areas:
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
• Assembling mechanical components to build machines
• Fitting and installing motors, bearings, gears, and other mechanical parts
• Using hand tools, power tools, and machine tools for precision fitting
• Conducting routine maintenance and troubleshooting
• Ensuring quality standards and health & safety regulations are met
• Working on projects for automation systems and custom machinery
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in the assembly and fitting of mechanical components
• Learn to operate machinery and tools used in fitting and assembly tasks
• Support the installation of equipment and systems on-site
• Troubleshoot mechanical faults and assist with repairs
• Follow technical drawings and guidelines to ensure precision
• Participate in regular training sessions to develop technical skills and knowledge
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment
What We Are Looking For:
• A keen interest in mechanical engineering and automation
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
• Good problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude
• A strong desire to learn and develop within the mechanical fitting trade
• Ideally, a background in mathematics and science (GCSEs or equivalent)
• Previous experience in mechanical or engineering fields is a plus, but not required
